The health promoting schools (HPS) framework recognises a
school as a community consisting of three interconnected
components which work together for better health and learning
outcomes:
This framework encourages people to think broadly across all these areas to develop a coordinated, whole school approach to planning, decision-making and program delivery. This HPS framework is used within the health promoting schools process.
School community members include students, staff (including non-teaching staff), and parents.
"Health is created and lived by people within the settings of their everyday life; where they learn, work, play and love. Health is created by caring for oneself and others, by being able to take decisions and have control over one's life circumstances, and by ensuring that the society one lives in creates conditions that allow the attainment of health by all its members."
